We have a policy of compete honesty with trainees, which is why we have no hesitation in recommending that you train for the ADI part 1 test yourself.

Thousands of trainees have managed to pass the part 1 test 'under their own steam'.

You will choose which way you want to do things. Our advice is to obtain the Focus CD Rom's to practice the HPT and simulated theory tests, and the DSA 's official guide to the Theory test so that you can study the theory required. Also, obtain the DSA's official ADI question bank

The official question bank has every question you could be asked, along with the correct answers. Using the question bank, along with the Dash driving matrix, allows you to record your progress and concentrate on the areas you may find difficult.

Always allow yourself plenty of time for your studies. Don't book your part 1 test until you feel that you are completely ready.

We feel that the majority of trainees should have little trouble preparing for part 1this way, at a total cost of around £25 to £30.

The choice to opt for classroom sessions with a company is purely yours, but please remember that you will pay for it. It is not unheard of for trainees to pay as much as £700 for the part 1element of the qualifying process.

As we've always said, it is perfectly possible to pass the part 1 test for as little as £25 to £30 . The test itself will then cost extra. At the time of writing, the part 1 test is £50. You can have as many attempts as you need to get through this test.

Whether you pay £700 for your training with a company, or spend £25 yourself on the training materials, our opinion is that you have just as much chance of passing

The theory can be studied alone, at your own pace, using the focus series of CD Rom's, along with the official DSA guide to the theory test will give you ample preparation. You can buy the full DSA theory question bank with answers for only £2, direct from the. You have the option of purchasing these when you register.

The Hazard Perception Test (HPT) of the part 1 is the area that catches out the majority of trainees. The Focus CD Rom's have a huge selection of practice clips to help you prepare. If you decide to take theory training with a company because you are worried about the hazard perception element, you should be aware that you will only be able to practice on simulated clips, just like the focus ones.

Think about it . . . no training company has access to the actual DSA Hazard Perception Clips. No company has access to exactly how the HPT software marks your test. That's why we believe that you are much better advised to prepare for this test on your own, or with a training partner.

Should you decide that you are having difficulty and want to train with a company, what have you lost? If you do manage to pass part 1 alone, you could have saved yourself hundreds of pounds. We think it's worth considering, and we're sure that you will too.
