The Keys to Success

"The most important skill to display on your Part 3 test are the Core Competencies . . . fault identification, fault analysis and remedial action. Our Part 3 recovery courses place a very heavy emphasis on understanding just how to use them!"
Dave Hartley Grade 6 ADI Trainer

Approach to the Pupil

Keep your approach professionalThis is quite a simple 'sub skill' area, and one that the majority of trainees score '5' or '6' for. If you have a friendly approach, you'll find it very easy to do well in this area.

Your task is simply to create a friendly learning environment for the learner. You have to get the right balance between being too friendly and being too business like.

If you remember that you're doing a job, but try to do it in a friendly manner, you won't be too far off the mark.

On part 3, just try to be yourself. Even the most inexperienced learner will instinctively know if you are putting on an act. It's all a part of human communication. People who are 'false' are usually very easy to spot. If your learners can do it, imagine what an experienced SE will think of you.

Try to keep the pupil at ease, with a friendly voice tone. Be firm where you need to be, but do it with a smile.

The pupil should always have the feeling that you are trying to help them, and not just criticising for the sake of it. Be constructive.

A very big part of the marking process for part 3 is that the SE has to decide if learning took place because of your input, not despite your input.

Your approach to the pupil goes a long way to build this. Be professional at all times.

Approach to the pupil goes hand in hand with attitude.
